Cooking Fresh Green Beans, Southern Style

Slow cooking fresh green beans seasoned with meat is a traditional Southern method that evolved from the farm culture.  Folks would put beans on to cook, sometimes in the fireplace, sometimes on a wood stove, or even over an outside fire, and let them cook slowly while the family worked in the fields.  There is a flavor that develops from the slow cooking that is unlike any other.  Try it at least once.  You won’t regret it.
